The first Kieding watercooling project
Preface

Every time I have upgraded my computer, besides the obvious benefits, the noiselevel have become more and more apparent. Fans here, fans there, and then a couple of fans to ensure that the other fans has some fresh air to fan around.... ("fy fan!" , as norwegians would express it).

This woudn't really bother me so much if it wasn't for the fact that I through my work have to be around computers for most of the day, and when I get home my computer are my postbox, my encyclopedia, my videoplayer, my stereo, my phonebook, pluss many other things that the computer can do to organize and simplify(or complexify?) ones existence... The result is too many hours around fans, and the constant noise they produce...thus started my first watercolling project....

Chapter 1

I put down some guiding parameters for the ideal cooling system in my mind:

  1. Must be silent, very silent....
  2. Must be fairly cheap
  3. Must be secure

My apartment has 3 computers. Two are beside each other, and the third is on the other side of the room. All of them need effective cooling.

To comply with parameter 1, I searched for solutions that wouldn't even need fans on the the radiators, and after some searcheing I came across a couple of cool products, like the Zalman Reserator 1:
or the innovaKonvekt-O-Matic passive radiator: or the passive HTCS-Radiator.....

All of which are very nice, well made, and good looking products, and great alternatives for those who can afford them.
Thinking about this I started thinking about saving money by using only one pump on two of my computers. After some simple calculations I found that there was not all that much to save on pumps, and after all I would need a bigger pump to run two PCs anyway, so even if those radiators are great I had to search for an alternative solution....
